Forums - Gaming Discussion - Are XBONE graphics closer to Wii U than PS4?

Seriously... These topics got old months ago.

The Wii U is no match for the XBO. The XBO is far in front of the Wii U in terms of raw horsepower. Yes, developers can still make great looking games for the Wii U. With clever use of the hardware, good developers will manage to make games that look very nice on the Wii U. But the same game would run miles better on the XBO.

The XBO shares the same hardware blueprint as the PS4 with an exception for the RAM (eSRAM and DDR3 instead of a single pool of GDDR5) and its GPU being around 40% weaker. The Wii U is miles behind this with its Radeon 5000 series based GPU (which is 5 years old tech, compared to the 7000 series GPUs used in the other 2 consoles), 2 GB of RAM (only one GB used for games), 3 cores PPC processor...

People think that because it can run games at a certain resolution and a certain frame rate, that it means it's just as capable, or close to what is seen on some other system. But they don't seem to realise that games like Call of Duty 3 can run in 1080p and [over] 60 fps on current hardware. It's not just the resolution and frame rate that dictates a game and hardware's competence, it's what the heck is going on on screen at that resolution and frame rate that tells the whole story.
The Wii U is incapable of achieving anything remotely close to Ryse. And yes, as great looking as X looks, it's nowhere close.

The gap between the PS4 and XBO is much smaller. Both system can speak the exact same "language". Use all the same features on a very similar scale. There is a gap, sure. That's why the XBO version of multiplatform games usually run at a lower resolution (still HD) and sometimes a lower frame rate to compensate. But it does so while running every graphics features shown on the PS4 versions.
Basically, while the PS4 is completely fluent in a certain language, the XBO is using it as a strong second language. He's fluent, but hesitates a little between sentences. While the Wii U is only able to speak enough words to order a lunch at McDonald's or ask for direction during a tourist trip in a foreign country.

If you look at MGS5, clearly yes. The 360 and X1 version look almost identical, while the PS4 version looks way better.

Are you kidding me? Compared to the PS4, the Xbone has a resolution or frame rate deficit with the odd slightly pared back effects or texture map. The Wii U on the other hand is pretty much a 7th gen console power wise that struggles to keep up with the 8 year old 360 in some multiplats. There's simply no comparison.

There's a lot more to it than simply resolution and frame rate. If MGS5 was coming out on the Wii U it would look like the 360/PS3 version, The Xbone version looks like the PS4 version including the textures and effects but with half the pixel count. Geddit?

WiiU - 720p

Xbox One - 720p

PS4 - 1080p

Logical answer: YES!

Well it's not that simple, but yeah.

I can fully understand people not agreeing with me, but I find it crazy how many people blow it off as if there isn't room for debate.

I was being sarcastic.

I know, but you're also correct.

There's only two WII U titles that I know of are 1080p and it's WW HD and Rayman legends ... (Take it what you will ...)

Obviously this only applies when the games have comparable graphics.

Take Ghosts for example. Ignoring image quality and just focusing on the rendered scene the XBONE port looks better but it's fair to say that both are somewhat close.

Wii U Ghosts: 880X720 or 633,600 pixels

XBONE Ghosts: 1280X720 or 921,600 pixels

PS4 Ghosts: 1920X1080 or 2,073,600 pixels

There's nothing wrong with making this comparison.

Its a sad day when we compare the WiiU to the Xbone. I hope power gap is closer to the PS4 than the WiiU.

With the recent news that MGS:GZ is 720p 60fps on the XBONE, is anyone else starting to feel that the system is closer in terms of graphics to the Wii U than the PS4? There's certainly a large gap between the XBONE and Wii U, no one is denying that, but the gap between the PS4 and XBONE appears even larger. I'm certainly thinking so.

Really?  Do you actually believe that?  Or are you just trying to be controversial?

You missed the sarcasm I think.
Resolution and framerates are obviously not a definitive conclusion of graphics, there is so much more that goes on to render a scene and using a a cross generational game with an aging game engine is not an accurate representation of what this generation is going to be like, it's laughable to even consider that.

With that in mind, I enjoy 7680x1440 gaming which is 11,059,200 pixels. Or roughly 5.3X better than the PS4.

Lets not forget that the Xbox One has superior geometry performance over the WiiU too, something which I wholeheatedly beleive we will see a big push this generation as consoles have finally caught up with 2 year old (Going on 3 years old in a mere 10 months) mid-range PC hardware.
