Forums - Gaming - Can Nintendo not cut 3DS price because of WiiU?

It just seems weird now that Vita is getting a price cut with the new model and may end up being LESS expensive than the 3DSXL soon.  I mean I know they're still destroying in sales against Vita, but you'd think Nintendo would wanna keep the price advantage significant.  Is WiiU and the financial burden it puts on the company holding them back from further pushing the 3DS price wise?

They have the 2ds for everyone who wants a lower entry point. So they don't need a new price cut right now.

Well, obviously. Wii U is costing them money, 3DS is making them money. The less they make off 3DS, the less they can use that profit to compensate for Wii U's troubles.
As long as Vita's not a threat to 3DS and its marketshare, it's logical they wouldn't want to cut the 3DS price. Besides, with it topping the WW charts basically year-round, I'd think a pricecut isn't anything they're considering. At least not for 3DS.

There is no need to cut the price with 2DS on market

The 2DS still needs to be released in Japan. It will take some time after that for a 3DS price cut to even be considered.

Why does a successful handheld need a price cut again? At this rate, even if the vita is $150, it still won't be as successful as the 3ds as long as the 3ds continues to get amazing, big-budget games

Why would they cut 3DS price? It's already cheap and selling great.

3DS is selling just fine unlike the Vita. Meaning their is no need for Nintendo to cut the price of the 3DS. Although I guess if the Wii U becomes comparable in price to the 3DS and it still sales like crap then Nintendo obviously has a problem.

I think 2DS main purpose was to give a lower price without having to lower profits. Next year I think we will see a $30 price cut on all skus and a Wii U price drop. 2DS-$99, 3DS-$139, XL-$169, Wii U-$249

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Pretty much that.
3DS is making a profit and Wii U is making a loss - for the company aswell. Until they can either lower the price of Wii U`s production cost or sell enough Wii U software to make it at least break even, 3DS will be their financial saviour.
