Not really. Different story, different protagonist, different powers. It might help to read an outline of the story of the first two games because the situation in this game resulted from that. But I'm sure they will mention everything you have to know right in the first minutes into the game.
If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.
