Forums - Sony - Why death of HD-DVD will not impact Blu-ray sales????????

What so you think consumer confidence will have no effect whatsoever?

That's in-correct sorry.

Yes, A/V crowds are jumping on and yes mainstream isn't getting as much attention - however there are still a large number of HD screens being sold now, and 2008 will be a boom year for HD and especially blu ray because it's not the only next gen format... anyone upgrading to new will take it over DVD simply because they are, prices will also being to drop because of it. Sony will be smiling very largely.

Consumer confidence wasn't hampered by the format war. It's hampered by no compelling reason to abandon DVD. That is still there. Therfore, confidence in Blu-Ray isn't going to rise, for those not knowing or caring about HD.

That's in-correct sorry.

See above. Sorry.

But they won't upgrade just because they say you will. They have to be convinced first. Surveys and studies show that those holding back due to the format war are in a minority. The big majority is people still satisfied with DVD. This is not going to change that, no matter how much you want it to.

Anyone is crazy if they don't think that Blu Ray will take off because of this.

There are many factors.

like more stores stocking more movies

Like more studios putting everything on blu ray now becuase there is no competition - the old DVD library will begin to move over in droves.

Video rental stores will now support the one format more exclusively.

The list goes on and on.

This is what's getting me. One format. I wish I could see a poll which says do people bother with HD.

Could it be a reason only a few are taking HD is because there are two formats fighting?

Well I started a thread, which focused on blu-ray over competition with anything else. And it stalled.

i think we already have seen the change of blu-ray winning the format war,ps3 sold +80k this week in NA,impressive

I find it funny that the guy says that the PS3 will affect Blu- ray Dvd Player sales in a negative way. This is because the PS3 is A video game console that happens to play Blu- Rays. I also remeber a time when people believed that VHS and DVD could co- exist with one another. Now VHS is basically a dead format. while DVD started of slow sales of DVD players continued to climb has prices continued to fall until it was the standard format. The Ratio of DVD players to Blu-ray players will continue to fall with the help of PS3

Systems I own (Games)

Sega: Dreamcast (40) , Saturn (25), Genesis (50), Masters System (10), Game Gear (20)

Sony: PS1 (8), PS2 (60) , PS3 (5), PSP (12)

Atari: 2600 (18) , 7800 (10), Lynx (10)

I didn't state they wouldn't take off. Just that it would take more than this.

I don't quite get that? Do you mean there are less HD-DVD players in homes than DVD players (which also applies to Blu-Ray), or somethine else?

its going to take off its going to make sony millions and thats just because if you buy a new TV.... its gonna be HD

HDTVs don't mean a switch to Blu-Ray. Too many people think those play HD no matter what is on it. In other words they think DVD is hi-def when played on and HDTV.

....i dont think they even sell SD TVs anymore lol

They do, just in smaller numbers.

This post smacks of ignorance.
