Forums - Sony - Sony: nearly half of PS Vita’s game sales are digital (48%)

They shouldn't have made the slim, at least not yet but instead drop the memory card price because honestly theres nothing in it that warrants that much money.

The reasons for designing the slim have more to do with reducing production costs and increasing margins on each unit sold. Memory cards are just like controllers: high margin items designed to reduce losses on consoles sold near production cost.

Sure, I want to be able to buy large memory cards for the same price as a Micro SD card and I dislike proprietary media formats due to the controlled market prices they create, but at the same time I understand why they are made in the first place.

I've only spent $20 on PSV memory cards since I bought one (the console came with 8GB and I paid $20 for a 16GB card), but I won't lie: I would probably buy a lot more digital games if memory card prices were a lot less.

How many of these digital sales were before the PS Vita released? How many are PS Vita/PS3 only, etc. If Sony sells anything compatible on the PSP, they shouldn't count it as Vita sales. They're doing this just to pad their numbers because the Vita doesn't have sh** worth purchasing outside of a few games here and there.

If digital is doing so good on the Vita, then how come we've only received three or four decent games in the past year?  Out of, what, 50?  46 of them being indie ports or PS3 ports.

Killzone:M

Tearaway

Guacamelee

Spelunky

Soul Sacrifice

Olli Olli

Rayman Legends

Hotline Miami

Real Boxing

Batman:AOB

Dragons Crown

Sly Cooper:TIT

Seems like a good amount of quality games and far from a few games here and there....

Most are on the Vita's top ten in sales and most have scored well with gamers.

And again, all are available digital.

As much as I prefer digital for mobile, the flexibility is still there with the PSV.

I must add that if I can find a retail copy of a game at a greatly reduced price, I'll buy it. It just so happens that all of the PSN deals I've been taking advantage of for PSV games have been at lower prices than retail copies.

well it's more comfortable than bringing a lot of carts everywhere :p

Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. I can't imagine Vita isn't profitable if you factor in the memory upon which all of those 48% of purchases are on. I paid 120 to get a 64GB card. That should be mostly profit and that doesn't include any games I bought for it.

Yeah, probably $100 profit.

No shit Sony? How do you expect people to buy the retail copies when Stores are only giving the Vita enough shelf space for a few games at best if not zero games anymore?

Atto Suggests...:

Book - Malazan Book of the Fallen series

Game - Metro Last Light

TV - Deadwood

Music - Forest Swords

PSP GT did 20% many years ago.

just saying this is to be expected aint it.

That's a pretty good point although that's more on retailers than Sony. The simple facts are the PSV simply hasn't sold enough units to warrant more floor space and just stocking the PSV line at all seems more like a service to Sony rather than a viable source of revenue.

But in all fairness, I don't recall the PSP receiving much more floor space at retail outlets than the PSV even in 2010 when I finally bought one.
