The 3DS has demonstrated its solid market performance yet again, with the latest Japanese sales tracking figures from Media Create revealing Nintendo’s beloved handheld is selling faster than the Game Boy Advance.

After 154 weeks since the system’s original release in Japan, a total of 15 million units have been sold. This figure places the 3DS ahead of the Game Boy Advance which had only sold around 11.64 million in Japan by this point, and significantly behind the DS which had sold around 20.16 million units by its 154th week.

Is this before or after the Lite? Even if it's before, this is a nice feat. I just wonder how well it's doing in the US and Europe. If the 3DS is dialing in numbers that well ahead of the GBA (which I doubt), then we could be looking at a nice end mark.

To be fair, DS Lite had a pretty large portion of the year to accumulate sales, 2DS (if released soon in Japan) could bring in a decent amount of sales. Though I don't expect the 3DS family to catch DS, even Pokemon wasn't enough to increase its sales compared to last year (obviously most people who bought Pokemon already had a 3DS). I think 3DS will have a good run overall and will continue to be successful there.

Probably well behind the GBA in North America, though.

The 3DS also started WAY better than the DS despite the $250 price tag, so it's funny to see not only how much the DS has caught up aligned, but even exceeded.
