Welll ,the PS3 isnt static as the consoles were before .It can be upgraded through firmware ,and those Cell and RSX can do a hell of a lot of video decoding ...

But the question is how willing will sony be to upgrading the PS3's BD playback? Anyway, AV enthusiast will go for a standalone player with better playback and a richer feature set. For the typical consumer, BD is still to expensive, however when the price does come down to less than 300 sales should pick up. However, by the time that happens standalone will be vastly superior to the PS3, and most consumers will still see the PS3 as a video game console. Really, Blu-ray will only boost PS3 sales for when people are looking for a console AND a high def disc player -- which is a negligible part of the market

Having pretty much no issues with playback and in most cases a superior picture quality.

I never said otherwise. I said it was a niche market. But if you go to the AVS forums a lot of people are praising the player. And it costs as much as the best HD player. But it speaks well of the system, that when all these HD-DVD guys started to switch sides the player of perference was immediately the PS3. Frankly, I never thought my DVD/VCR combo deck was any better than my PS2 for DVD playback. Though I purchased that DVD/VCR deck years later.
