Forums - Sony - Pachter: Saying Sony Has "A Lot of First-Party Content Is a Stretch"

Pachter has openly said he thinks consumers dont care about old games and only want the new ones. And that publishers wont let their game be streamed unless its passed its physical sales projections which are usually around the 2 yr mark. It's a logical thought, but I think he great underestimates the amount of consumers that would love to play the older games. He is just not much of a gamer himself and only really cares about what's popular at the moment.

hes correct about that maybe on one front...the young kids anyone who grew up with the ps2 as the current console probably wont care cause they grew up in the Graphics make games better era.  But people my age 32 or older and slightly younger the ones who grew up with atari NES SNES and GENESIS era we love the older games if for nothing more then nostalgia, wish i knew how many bought FF7 for  the PS3 older game that is great and many probably rebought the game to play it again.  Me i know on my Wii i rebought all the mario games from the SNES and even bought the disc with the collection on it so i rebought them twice.  Hell i still have the carts for thos games in my house and can play them on original systems right now if i wanted to.

point im trying to make is hes undervalueing nostolgia by alot.

Thirty? Well, okay, sure, let's say that's not "a lot". Still, you're going to soon have PS3 games by other publishers that are no longer generating revenue. How much money is Valkyria Chronicles pulling in, for example? How much will it be pulling in next year at this time? It's not going to be hard to get more games on Playstation Now.

One of if not the most anticipated game I'm looking forward to on ps now.

There are two responses for a Pachter thread:

Reply #1: Put Pachter's name in place of whatever he's talking about. If he says "Nintendo is doomed" the popular response is "Pachter is doomed". Simple but effective.

Reply #2: Say the opposite of whatever Pachter talks about. If he says "Nintendo is doomed" say something hilarious like "Yay! Nintendo is saved!!"

And now you know how to respond in the event of an actual Pachter thread. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

I think he just likes the attention. We all know there is alot of sony "support" online and this riles them up.

The person with a job that can be wrong and still keep it like a meteorologist. Oh well he is entertaining, like an old senile man.

This threads a joke. You are taking something out of context when it's a vague claim to begin with. Request for a clarification on his show if its bothering you so much.

I'm certainly not a Playstation fan so I have no clue about it, but I seriously doubt he's speaking out of his ass. He makes claims because he's an analyst, and they are unpopular because he's a business analyst. EA and Activision have extremely unpopular views on gaming as well, but they make a lot of money in the process.

These numbers and facts are hypothetical and are being pulled out of my ass but lets say he's referring to the sum total amount of first party games from sony over the last year, 4 of them are large games, 10 of them are region locked in japan and the rest are minigames.  Maybe pachter is referring  Sony's PSN content as being pathetic when compared to their rivals in the same category and timeframe.

the problem is Pachter talks out his ass when it comes to Sony and Nintendo, i havent heard him say anything that became reality, in 2009 he stated ps3,x360 and wii were the final consoles, hes not a gamer and he makes the dumbest predicitons

here are some hes stated

Boderlands was "sent out to die" before its release and consequently 3+ million in sales and a sequal

- PREDICTION: March 2009, and Jul 2009, Pachter predicts "Grand Theft Auto 5" will arrive in 2010, and 2011, respectively. In December 2010, after noticing we were no closer to a "GTAV" release date, Pachter predicts "GTAV" would rear its head by 2012.
OUTCOME: No, no, and nope. Here we are in 2013, and Rockstar has yet to release the next "GTA" installment. Originally slated to release this Spring, Rockstar has since promised that we'll all have our hands on "GTAV

im not going to go and find more but what im saying is he just throws shit against the wall, hes no better then you lookin in the rumor section or a tabloid, eventually somethign will stick and be right if you throw enough on the wall.

Once again, that can be countered with "he's an analyst", it's his job to make guesses about the industry based on current trends. He's not an all seeing god, he is just saying what would make sense from a business perspective.  GTA5 probably would have been a good idea back in 2010/2011 if the company was activision or EA.  In reality though Take Two is very slow about rehashing old games.  He probably just has trouble taking off his EA hat and figuring out what a good company will actually say.

Once again I reiterate my point.  This thread is talking down about a person making guesses about the gaming industry....!!!  THAT'S WHAT VGCHARTZ DOES!!!  This thread is a waste of time.

How many really want to play them? Enough people to sustain the service?

First we need more details because at this point we don't know much..

I don't like/dislike pachter, but your post is 100% accurate. I couldn't have said it better, and couldn't add anything to it. Well said. I will say this: I wish I had his job, he makes good money, just for making guesses. That's a sweet gig...
