I've been thinking lately about the possibility of Nintendo and Sony both releasing a unified hardware set-up, based around a system like their own versions of Steam, where-in you buy the PS5/PSPBonum or the UNES/Ultra-DS both as packaged deals. 

Now maybe I'm completely off my rocker and it would be a terrible idea for both of them, but assuming they did both feel it'd suit them best to push that as the new industry standard approach, what would happen to Xbox-Nega? Would Microsoft go along with it and release their first ever handheld as part of their own fusion platform?

EDIT: Can a mod please change the titles to do say: make 'fusion' consoles each.

How would there be only one company in the market if both Sony and Nintendo had their own hybrid consoles?

Because it will be only one consoles... best ideia ever... PlayNintendo.

I'm not interested in console/handheld hibrids... I want powerful consoles.

I saw your message above mine after I posted my own... to be fair if Nintendo or Sony do end up in big trouble down the line (though contrary to what some people want to believe I don't think either company are doomed at the moment) I would imagine the surviver taking ownership of their fallen adversary, possibly through interference from the Japanese government. Super-Plationstation Entertain System / SPES would be interesting but it would suffer from Nintendo's typical issues of having such intimidating IPs against the third party front, despite Sony's better rep with third parties and advertising abilities... 

On topic though, how do you feel Microsoft would respond to its rivals having become two Handheld/Home fusion consoles instead of just being fellow home consoles?

I think is it own route... TV, entertainment, general apps, etc... so I don't think they will works with anything related to handhelds but they will merge the game apps and mobile apps for sure.
