With that logic then any game advertised for the ps4 or xbone that looks great would be considered way too much at $399 or S499.
I liked the commerial. Definitely a step in the right direction.

PS4 and Xbone are appealing as primary gaming systems, so you buy one to be set for your gaming needs for several years and all the big multi platform games release on them. Wii-U at this point is only appealing for people that want to play one or multiple of Nintendo's own games, and then $299 is to much.
When i look at this commercial from an uninformed potential buyers point of view, is see a game that i might want, but i need to buy a $299 device to play it and that doesn't even include the game i saw in the commercial. I also see that the device comes with a controller with a screen, but the screen on the controller doesn't seem needed to play the game or even used.

Read the above kids for an excellent example of what is known as confirmation bias. Make it a point in your life to at least try to be aware of your own tendencies towards this form of bias.

Nothing biased about it, it's just really bad marketing(or probably ignorance from NIntendo's part, because the commercial is actually pretty catchy).
Besides ask any Wii-U buyer and most will say they bought it for the NIntendo games not the controller. If the Wii-U would have hade a regular controller the same people would have bought it nonetheless, and probably for $100 cheaper.
