Those that aren't steady still can't shoot right, we're not talking auto-aim or anything. The thing is, if you hardwire the camera to the aim, and people aren't absolutely 100% steady, the camera will be shaking permanently, which is confusing to say the least, and probably a huge eyesore.
Plus you just can't see the aim like a mouse. When you move your mouse to the left on an PC FPS the camera moves left; if you want to look further to the left, you raise the mouse, move it to the right mid-air, put it down, move it to the left again. There's no such thing with the Wii mote. The head must keep moving while pointing to the left, and you have to return the aim to the center when you want to stop moving. There's the potential for FPSs to feel great, but it's not that simple.
So to recap, there must be a dead zone. Getting away from that dead zone you should move the head continuously faster, and probably give apropriate feadback, with the aim moving at least a bit off center (never near off screen). You also have to think what to do when the Wii mote itself gets off screen (loses the "sensor") - you should give visual feedback for that too.
Metroid Prime does look very good, in every video I've seen. It's very close to what I'd imagine, if it was up to me. Let's just hope (or more like dream) it comes back with the Zapper - either it or Resident Evil 4 Wii.
