Forums - Sony - Sony's Q3 FY2013 Earnings (Stock UP 5%; Profit Beats Forecasts; 7.8m PS4+PS3; 2m Vita+PSP)

WHAT?! Hell no!

4.2 million PS4s shipped in this Q --> 3.6 million PS3s shipped for this Q.

From Oct. - end of December

3.6 million PS3s shipped // according to VGC 2.7 million consoles sold to consumers
3.5 million Xbox 360s shipped // according to VGC 2.2 million consoles sold to consumers.

So there is 100k difference for the shipments, but 500k for the sold through numbers. This is not logical. That was my point. I never doubted Sonys numbers.

What they shipped in late December was sold in early January... so 4.2m in 2013 is without what they shipped in late December... the mininum shipment for PS4 is 4.4-4.6m... PS3 shipped less than that 3.4m.

For what exactly? 4.2m is the sales for Dec 28th.... the shipment is obvious over that and the combined shipment is 7.8m.

Unless there is a magical way to ship and sold in the same day... the late December shipment just get sold in early January... if you account Sony is producing ~200k units per week... then the mininum shipped is the sales 4.2m + 0.2m for the last week of December... so minimum 4.4m.

You are making the SOLD vs  SHIPPED mistake.

What they sold:

"TOKYO, JAN. 8, 2014 -Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. today announced that cumulative sales of the PlayStation®4 (PS4™) computer entertainment system have reached 4.2 million*1 as of December 28, 2013, demonstrating the explosive growth of the PS4 platform.

*1 Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SCEI."

Okay, thanks.

Why did they start to ESTIMATE sold through numbers in their financial reports all of a sudden? Weird.

So, the PS4 oustold the Xbox One by about 500 - 600k and Xbox 360 outsold the PS3 by about 200k. Got it.

Every company do that because the sales are got by different ways from different trackers...

For example the software estimated data used this terms "*2 Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SCEI. PS4 Software sales data in Europe and Asia collected 11/29/13 – 12/31/2013. PS4 Software sales data in North America and Latin America collected 11/15/13 – 12/28/2013(some data collected 11/15/13 – 12/31/2013)."

Nobody knows exactlly yet but my gusses is mininum of 1 week of production in December to maximum of 2 weeks of production in December reached the stores in January... so 4.4m to 4.6m shipped in 2013 if Sony is producing ~200k per week.... 1 week is if they used some air trasport to make the travel faster.

PS3 shipped less than 360.

Nope.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

the question is with sony selling off everything and being downgraded to junk will it start looking like nintendo. nony or sintendo in a couple years

Nope.

Everyone.

You are cofusing shipment with sales again.

Sales = Always estimates based in 3rd trackers... Nintendo chartz are estimates... 2m and 3m MS numbers for Xbone are estimates... Sony 3.1m and 4.2m for PS4 are estimates... the 1 million sold in 1 day for both are estimates.

Shipment = What they really produced and shipped round to the nearest number... no company ships exactly 3.9m units... it is something close like 3,879,478.

BTW Sony shares opened UP.

The outlook is not bad like people here thinks (terrible like somebody) because most of loss come from the cut off the PC division and the new way to TV division.

I am not confusing anything. I just said that not every company does that.
MS for example never reported videogame software numbers in their financial reports at all (except for some major titles here and there).
