Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft & Crackdown studio teases new game announcement for tomorrow

Two Microsoft heads have tweeted some intriguing comments tonight, hinting at a possible announcement for tomorrow morning, and now Crackdown studio Ruffian Games may have teased some kind of announcement. Judge for yourself here.

UPDATE 2: Twitter sleuth Lifelower has unearthed evidence that shows Ruffian Games recently created a 60FPS, first-person prototype for Microsoft.

UPDATE: Crackdown 2 developer Ruffian Games just tweeted this:

It follows the below teasing from Microsoft, and comments regarding Crackdown 3 from Phil Spencer. He clearly wants to see it happen, and isn’t being shy about it. But what do you think?

ORIGINAL STORY: Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Studios, tweeted “Personally going to be a good day tomorrow, looking forward to a games announce (sic) coming early in the morning, fun part of the job.”

Larry “Major Nelson” Hyrb echoed the sentiment, with “Looks like I’ve got a a (sic) busy morning coming up tomorrow :) ”

First person prototype eh? I wonder if they'll try something new with first person and not make it a traditional shooter.

Update 2 - This is Ed, your friendly neighbourhood LinkedIn surfer. I've had a quick look at a few other Ruffian job postings, and there are several possibilities as regards that impending announcement.

Ruffian seems to be working on at least two unannounced games right now, one "an announced Action/RPG title for the PC platform built in Unity", as described by software engineer Simon Kilroy, the other an Unreal Engine game for Xbox One, mentioned by lead artist Paul Large, lead engineer Duncan Harrison and technical director Barry Cairns. It might interest you to know that Epic's Mark Rein has just wished Microsoft's Phil Spencer "good luck" with the announcement. A tease? I wouldn't put it past him - Rein's the mischievous sort.

Paul Large has also worked on a couple of CryEngine 3 projects - the confirmed-dropped Streets of Rage: Reborn and an untitled third person title, which could be the original version of Ryse: Son of Rome for Xbox 360 (Barry Cairns's profile corroborates this). Ruffian has had extensive dealings with Microsoft over the past year - Engineer Robert Ballantyne worked on Halo: Spartan Assault and Kinect Sports Rivals, for instance, plus an "upcoming next gen console title".

More soon, I hope.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.
