To be fair, Metroids are just big energy-sucking, massive-teethed jellyfish . 

Unless we go into the more advanced forms of Metroids....now those are some serious badasses. Queen Metroid FTW

I was thinking more about Queen Metroid from Metroid II, but that one will do .

Omega Metroid from Fusion would kick some major Samus ass (which it did, until SA-X decided to butt in)

I saw this topic thread, missed the "can/should," and got really excited for a second there.

Anyway, I'd personally prefer another Metroid character instead of Ridley. Yeah, sure, they can make him smaller, but making him smaller is just...weird. Part of the intimidation factor for him comes from the fact that he's much larger than Samus, and removing that would just seem...odd to me.

However, if it's him or no other Metroid characters, then I'll definitely take him. Smash Bros. has been horribly under-represented in the Metroid department. His moveset would take a good deal of fine tuning to get right, though. He better not just be another big, slow but powerful character.

I dont really see anybody else, nobody but him is a big impact on Metroid Franchise imo.

As for your last sentence, Sakarai looks like he is fixing the issue. At least with bowser being much faster than he previously was. DK is actually pretty fast, King Dedede is slow but he is very good at other things so he is fine. Ridley could be slower in terms of attacks but make him speedy in running! 

All i kno is he be very unique!

Shulk would be awesome! There are 17 returning and 4 new so far in SSB4. I think there will be 33 returning and 11 new. Hopefully he makes it!

I wouldn't mind Dark Samus being thrown in, so long as the moveset was well designed. A moveset catering towards rushdown (to contrast Samus' keep away style) would be fairly easy to implement, and it's certainly got a large enough moveset from Echoes and Corruption to drawn upon. 

Other than that, Rundas, the SA-X, or Sylux would all be decent choices (although the last one probably just comes from my desire for the Metroid series to make him into a halfway developed character). Certainly none of these have the clout that Ridley has, but a small Ridley just seems wrong. Plus, that moveset is going to need a lot of work to get right...and balancing characters is something the Smash Bros series has definitely struggled with in the past (even if there is an entire team as opposed to one person working on it this time).

People are guessing between 38/39-48. Sakarai stated there wont be a leap in characters and it might be the same number of characters. All i kno is there will be some cuts to the previous roster.
