Forums - Sony - The Last of us crosses the 4 million milestone

Wow awesome sales! Too bad GT6 sort of ruined a good year of sales for Sony exclusives.

Congrats Naughty Dog! Although Square Enix said that Tomb Raider was not profitable with the same mark.IMO TLOU have a big chance reaching 6 millions at end of the life cycle.

Remember tomb raider was created for multipul platforms. It also had a very extensive marketing campaign. Naughty dog know what they are doing. All ND games cost less than 20 million to make.

Not that I'm doubting you but could link me to a source? That amount is amazingly small for the production value I envisage for ND games lately. (TLOU in particular took nearly 4 years to make as the team split and began work after Uncharted 2 finished).

OT: The game is amazing and deserve every sale, I would dobule dip for sure if there is a PS4 GOTY edition. Cannot wait for the SP DLC! :)

Pretty great sales, but surely the "game of the generation" should of sold more. No?

I knows it still going to continue to sell consistently well and all, but I'm just saying.

Better numbers than Uncharted 3, being a brand new IP and digital day one. Congrats ND

What are you talking about? GTAV sold plenty.

I don't think a game like Last of Us has a wide appeal, per se. It could be argued its lucky to sell as well as it has.

The holidays gave it a nice boost via bundles. The game has done quite well, that's all that matters.

Sales don;t equal quality, if it was fair COD wouldn;t sell 20 million a year.

Yea I am aware of this, which is why I am skeptical about the TLOU costing only $20m.

The development and lead time between Uncharted 1 and 2 was 1 year and 10 months. From Uncharted 2 to TLOU was 3 years and 8 months.

Even accounting for their not being a a full team working  at all the time on the project initially, budget would definitely be higher when the development period is more than doubled.

I'm talking about ltd. If I remember correctly, U3 didn't had a digital version from the beginning, even so TLOU could top the numbers of every uncharted, or that's what I think.

There is a wider appeal for competitive shooters over a survival horror game.

The story telling and presentation of Last of Us is quality. The gameplay was meh.
