Keep in mind that Skyrim didn't have a lot of competition in 2011. TLoU went up against GTAV.

 Exactly.  TLOU is great, but  Mario Bros,  Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, Halo Combat Evolved, Resident Evil 4, Final Fantasy VII, Grand Theft Auto III, Devil May Cry and many others  had a bigger impact than TLOU.


Than in that case Grand Theft Auto V had a bigger impact than any of those games. And in recent times TLOU has sold or will sell more than any of those games (including digital sales) for the exception of GTA III and on top of that is the most awraded game in history which is what this thread is about. It's not an opinion it is a fact.
