I know another user has posted the actual article regarding the topic, but I'm asking for peoples opinion on the matter. King (Creator of Candy Crush Saga) has recently recently trademarked the word "candy", this applies to things such as games, clothing, and footwear. They claim to be "protecting" their IP from infrigment. 

However some speculate it is to bully other companies. The creator of "All Candy Casino Slots" has reported that Apple has contacted him to either remove his app or prove it doesnt infringe against King's new trademark.

Should they be able to own the trademark of the common word "candy"?

How is this even possible? Like isn't there something preventing stupid stuff like this from happening in the us?

The US patent system is the most broken in the world. I would guess that is deliberately because some people in the background are making huge money with this.

We had to say "dickety" "*insert replacement word to be used in the future here*" because the Kaiser King had stolen our word "twenty" "candy".
