Forums - Sony - As all PS3s are backwards compatible with PS1, why isn't PS4 backwards compatible with PS2?

They can emulate it, but they would need to adapt the emulator to almost every individual game because of the exotic hardware used in the PS2, which forced the devs to come up with very exotic solutions on how to get more power out of the system.

That's pretty much a waste of time and resources.

I think they just want to make money from remakes, and save time and money and not develop an emulator that works properly.

Anyway whats the point playing PS2 games on PS4.
If you do that, youre going to end up playing PS4 games on PS6 and PS6 games on PS8.
Just cut the losses and stay with the times.

Whats the point in watching films that are more than 8 years old?

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

Exactly. Maybe they were good when society and technology back then allowed it to be good, but as time goes on you start to think 'was this really the best acting that existed back then?'

I laughed my head off watching the stormtroopers in starwars march like an army of little girls, or when various people got killed in the godfather, the acting is the worst ive seen.

It is a shame when the difference in quality is ignored because of people who hold nostalgic views and journalists are forced to uphold that view in fear of being discredited.

For another reason...PS1 games use CD's not DVD's i believe....the reader itself might not even be able to read disc based ps1 games since they took audio CD playback out of the PS4.

That's a software problem only. Most of the media functions in the PS4 are missing. Like BD data discs can't be read yet. If you can play DVD's. The lens can read CD's.

psnow, higher priorities, lazy, technically difficult, not valuable, buggy product, 3rd party publisher backlash

...take your pick. there tons of reasons sony wouldn't want to do it.

PS4's CPU is trash, it's barely an improvement over the 8 years old Cell CPU. Maybe that plays a role.

in terms of whats available on the market, both XBONE and PS4 CPU's are trash

Current Game Machines: 3DS, Wii U, PC.

Currently Playing: X-Com(PC), Smash Bros(WiiU), Banner Saga(PC), Guild Wars 2(PC), Project X Zone(3DS), Luigis Mansion 2(3DS), DayZ(PC)

Non speculative answer.

Sony has different priotities with adding features to the PS4. DLNA is a pretty high priority. They also have suspend/resume to work on. Tons of other highly requested features too.

The PS4 is more than powerfull enough to run PS1 and PS2 games. That's far from an issue.

I know squat about how Sony feels about the financial aspects of bc, so I can't answer on that.

I feel like HD remake of PS2 titles is kind of done. But if PS4 was BC with PS2 Sony could put basically the whole PS2 library (or at least the good games) on PSN and right there you have a reason to buy a PS4 to replace your PS3 even if the actual PS4 library doesn't have much to offer you.

Sure with PS Now you will be able to stream some PS2 games without having to have built in BC. But it takes time and effor to convert a game to play via internet streaming, I assume, and how long will it be before a substantial number of PS2 games are on PS Now? It takes bugger all effort to plonk a game on PSN for normal old downloading. And then you have the people who still have a PS2 collection who like to play from time to time, and PS2 BC on PS4 would mean only needing 2 consoles in the house to be able to play all 4 generations of Playstation home console games.

PS4 must have sufficient processing power to be able to emulate PS2 without any problem.

Wait, PS3 was backward compaitible with PS1.  No joke I didn't even know that and I had one.
