But it's not anymore the case (except in Japan, duh). PS4 already outsells the 3DS in USA & EU. I know it's surprising but it's the reality. Well PS4 not released in Japan yet.

Maybe the real legitimate question of this thread then is: Will PS4 outsell 3DS in Japan?

I think PS4 will still outsell 3DS in spurts when big games launch. FFXV and KH3 release could push HW to that level along with a new GTA, etc

When the ps4 becomes available in Japan they will both be about neck and neck for maybe 3 months or so. then we will see one of the other take a small lead.

But in any case, my Vita is doing great at the moment and I see no need for new handhelds for the next 3 years or so.

I think the PS4 could outsell the 3DS this year. I imagine the PS4 selling 15 millions and the 3DS 13 millions.

I cant believe you didnt come up with the most obvious answer: when the PS4 stops having supply issues and readily available in stores in the west.

I notice some people saying this. While true in November and December I had no problem finding ps4s in stores in Janurary.  Looking at the sales in America and Xboxone I highly doubt there under shipping that badly in janurary.

The PS4 has released in two major regions: Europe and America and in those two major regions, it's outsold the 3DS.

You must be shopping on another planet then. As that's not how most people are experiencing it.
