Famitsu top 10 2013

01. [3DS] Pokémon X / Y (Nintendo) {2013.10.12} - 3.976.829
02. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 (Capcom) {2013.09.14} - 3.293.312
03. [3DS] Animal Crossing: New Leaf (Nintendo) {2012.11.08} - 1.730.182 / 4.017.159
04. [3DS] Friend Collection: New Life (Nintendo) {2013.04.18} - 1.580.067
05. [3DS] Dragon Quest VII: Fighters of Eden (Square Enix) {2013.02.07} - 1.223.268
06. [3DS] PazuDora Z: Puzzle & Dragons Z (GungHo Online Entertainment) {2013.12.12} - 1.005.697
07. [3DS] Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon (Nintendo) {2013.03.20} - 982.737
08. [PS3] Grand Theft Auto V (Take-Two Interactive Japan) {2013.10.10} - 605.882
09. [WIU] New Super Mario Bros. U (Nintendo) {2012.12.08} - 965.794
10. [WIU] Wii Party U (Nintendo) {2013.10.31} - 518.766

With this being the last numbers for calendar year 2013, i see it fitting to address the top selling software for that year. As we can see there is a Nintendo combobreaker at number 8 with GTA5 being the top selling western published title in Japan. This is actually a historic event since at no prior year has this ever happened before. Could this be the sign of a paradigm shift where western publishers could have great success in Japan?

So yes, another year of Nintendomination happened on the software front with Nintendo dominating the best seller list for 2013. 6 games in the top 10 was published by Nintendo, 1 game by Capcom, 1 game by SE, 1 game by GungHo, 1 game by T2 Interactive.

Here's for 2014. Will Nintendo be dominant this year? I believe its going to be hard arguing against that.

WOW, Those 3DS Softwares

So, in the land of the handhelds, Final Fantasy X HD debuts on the Vita and yet WiiU hardware sales edge out Vita hardware sales this week despite a healthy Vita sales bump?

What is this madness?

Because of this this games

06./03. [WIU] Wii Party U # (Nintendo) {2013.10.31} (¥4.935) - 87.262 / 518.766 <60-80%> (-32%)
07./04. [WIU] New Super Mario Bros. U # (Nintendo) {2012.12.08} (¥5.985) - 75.131 / 965.794 <80-100%> (-34%)
08./07. [WIU] Super Mario 3D World (Nintendo) {2013.11.21} (¥5.985) - 71.159 / 410.041 <60-80%> (-23%)

Of course, but it's not like any of those games debuted that week whereas the Vita, in a market where handhelds dominate, had a pretty popular game debut - even if it was just a remake.

The point was not that the Vita did badly at all (in fact, quite the contrary) but that WiiU, a console that had 5k weekly sales earlier in the year, had comparable sales with a handheld that received a boost.

I think this is mainly timing imho, WiiU was still riding its pre-new year boost whereas Sony platforms tend to be bought by people for themsleves after new year rather than as gifts beforehand, so it is possible that WiiU will drop faster than Vita and be outsold when we get the figures tomorrow. Who knows though, may depend if the FFX boost wears off quickly, but given that it's supposed to be more or less sold out, that might suggest that Vita will keep doing OK for at least 1 more week

Psv could have bad sale in  January because psv don't have any game in the two first week  but February it should do ok they are many games but they are small ,march is the biggest month for PSV

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

Oh I just realized, looks like Animal Crossing crossed the 4 million mark before Pokemon in retail!

Damn... Nintendo owns some serious ass.

Yeah, I agree.  Sounds reasonable.

Leaked numbers from GAF:

Famitsu data from David Gibson

3DS - 188.000
PSV - 83.000
Wii U - 61.000 (71k last year)
PS3 - 41.000

WiiU down YoY, very alarming. 3DS also down.
