Forums - Nintendo - How much will Mario Kart 8 & Smash Bros U sell?

I think they'll do much better than the GC counterparts. They'll both sell 10 million plus. I really think Smash stands a chance to beat MK8 even despite the 3DS version. The two versions together will probably sell 20 million plus, with the split between platforms being about 50-50. The Wii had a very casual audience, so only a tiny portion of Wii owners bought Brawl while a huge portion bought Kart. The demographics have changed, so Smash stands a chance to outsell Kart like it did in the GC era. Of course, I say this as someone who believes the Wii U will sell more than the N64, getting 40-50 million.

MK will sell a third of the userbase like it did on N64, GC and Wii.

Smash Bros. will sell around the same as MK this time.

Yep.

Mk = 1.2 million

SSB = 1.5 million

My guess is that Nintendo ends up making bundles for both so the numbers for Kart will be closer to 15 m. and Smash Bros will be about 10 m. These NSMBU bundles sold extremely well, and that was a game that was already out for a year, not to mention that bundles are a big reason why the 3DS has done as well as it has.

Both those games were bundled at some point on Gamecube

4M Mario Kart 8 and 3M Smash Bros. in 2014 would be good I guess.
I don't think they will bundle the games at release. Maybe a MK8 bundle for the holiday season 2014.

Not sure if Smash Bros. 3DS will hurt Wii U sales that much. Controlling a fighting game with that circle pad will probably suck and Smash veterans will surely choose the Wii U version. Maybe some Smash newcomers on 3DS will even be motivated to buy a Wii U to play the "proper" version of Smash Bros..

I'd say they will reach life time sales of;

Mario Kart 8: 10-12 million
Super Smash Bros: 4-6 million

Based on life time hardware sales of 30-35 million.

In comparison I believe Super Mario 3D World will reach 6-8 million life time.

I think Mario Kart will get about a 50% attach rate by the end of 2014, a good question is will it drive Wii U sales? I'll play it safe and say 4.5 million copies by the end of 2014.

Smash will get maybe 25-30% attach rate since it's a fighting game & not as accessible as MK, again, will it be a system seller? I'll say around 2.3 million by year end.

im sorry but no. NSMBWiiU has sold a little more than 3 mil. thats with it being bundled and on the market for little more than a year. It is a far more popular franchise than either Smash or Kart. you think MK will do more than a 2d Mario with only 9 months? Explain.

Your Smash numbers make sense...if one wants to pretend their is no 3DS version, which i gaurantee will take some sales away from the WIi U.

NSMB is far more popular than Mario Kart? MKWii outsold NSMBWii, MK7 outsold NSMB2...

NSMBU has great level design, but it isnt't innovative at all. The difference between MKWii and MK8 is far more obvious.
