Forums - Microsoft - Pachter: Microsoft could reduce Xbox One price "faster than forecasted"

The Xbox One could see a reduction in RRP earlier than previously anticipated, according to one US analyst.

"We think 'winning' is important to both companies," Wedbush Morgan’s Michael Pachter told investors.

"It is possible that Microsoft will reduce Xbox One pricing far faster than we have forecasted. Should hardware prices come down faster than we have modelled, it is likely that hardware and software sales will grow faster."

As it stands, however, Pachter believes Sony is the winner elect with forecasted sales by the end of 2016 of 37.7m units, 30 per cent ahead of Xbox One’s predicted 29m.

Pachter, ever a fan of Wii U, predicts 20m sales of that console in the same time period – and that’s on the presumption that Nintendo cuts the price by 50 per cent. He also says that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Nintendo will kill the console completely before 2016.

He also thinks PS4 will be $100 cheaper by 2016 and Xbox One $150 cheaper.

Well with Halo coming next year, it would make no sense to price cut when Halo will surely move consoles on its own.

Cut the price/release a kinect-less sku to undercut PS4 in August 2015 (you don't want to cut it in spring and piss off the holiday buyers), which falls in line with the 360 price cut of 07.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Ethomaz must have had a hell of a "Reveion"... geting up us 2 or 3 days old news is hard.

OT:

For that logic MS would have drop the 360 price a couple of time the last 4 years.

Wining is not important, the important is making money. If sales are ok no price drop, dosen´t matter if Sony sells 30% more (a very conservative forcast IMHO).

Edit: Sorry, I read the 2016 forcast and thought it was the same thing than days ago, just another site with a diferent report of the same thing...

BTW if you find any place Pachter talked about Xbone price "faster than forecasted" beore today (3rd Jan) I will give you a gift.

We'll see. The way things are going right now I can definitely see the X1 becoming the Wii U2, at least in Europe, MS won't want that and games like Halo certainly won't save it from that fate over here. Titanfall is kind of a wildcard.

I never understood why a massive price drop for the X1 is so hard of a possibility? I mean MS has a lot more cash than Sony to sell the console for a loss. I wouldn't be surprised if it got cut a 100$ without dropping the kinect in the near future. Especially when Microsoft sees how far they are behind by the end of Spring.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Xbox One is selling very quickly at its current price. I don't see a price drop anytime this year.

they make money on each console.. they could have dropped the price at launch, so how is this faster then forcasted

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

They aren't far behind now, so a sales difference doesn't make a price drop a significant choice.

It will be great. I might get Xbox One later if they ditches kinect. But I guess price cut will be announced at E3 2014.
