Forums - Gaming - Vg.no releases info about average age of Video-gamers.

http://www.vg.no/nyheter/ingenriks

Here on the chartz, there have been many people saying things as "Wii are for soccer moms only" and other things, now, is it?

Www.Vg.no has released information, that tells us that the average age of Video-gamers, by console, is this:

Average age of Video-gamers overall: 36 years.

Average age of Wii-gamers: 34 years
Average age of Ps3-gamers: 38 years
Average age of X360 gamer: 21 years.

Average age of PSP gamers: 27 years
Average age of DS gamers: 53 years.

They also state that this is a major increase from the last generation, in which the average was 31 years old.

Those DS numbers cannot even be close to correct. 53!?!?

I suspect this is just for one country but here's my thoughts:

Average age of Wii-gamers: 34 years - expected

Average age of Ps3-gamers: 38 years - Not expected... Must be the Blu-ray

Average age of X360 gamer: 21 years. - As I thought, Xbox is becoming the
"kiddie" system this generation, but so kiddie as GC

Average age of PSP gamers: 27 years - expected

Average age of DS gamers: 53 years. - Holy $#!^!! Wow... must be even more popular with seniors than I thought!

Now i am feeling young again. ;)

Anything that lists the average age of a gamer of over 30 is crazy, I hate to tell you guys, but there is not millions of 80year old gamers running around. the DS age is just beyond retarded, maybe they should poll people that are not living in an old age home.

Looks like the 360 is hitting smack dab in the middle of its demographic, successfull ploy if I ever saw one.

The age of the average gamer in the US has been over 30 for quite some time, and in Australia it has also crept into the 30s. From the ESA top 10 facts page (http://www.theesa.com/facts/top_10_facts.php)

3. The average game player is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.

4. The average age of the most frequent game buyer is 38 years old. In 2007, 92 percent of computer game buyers and 80 percent of console game buyers were over the age of 18.

8. Thirty-eight percent of all game players are women. In fact, women over the age of 18 represent a significantly greater portion of the game-playing population (31%) than boys age 17 or younger (20%).

9. In 2007, 24 percent of Americans over the age of 50 played video games, an increase from nine percent in 1999.

While they don't list a date on their page, some of these facts have been up there for at least 6 months, and with an aging population, unless a dramatic shift happens in the industy, the ages can only go up for now.

Edit: Appears I was slightly off on the Australian age, as of Oct 2007 - "This is despite recent figures from the Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA) showing the average Australian gamer is 28, and over 50 per cent of gamers are over the age of 18."
