Forums - Sony - Playstation: only 4% are digital sales

So, i was reading a portuguese (non gamer) magazine named Visão(Vision) from 5-11 December 2013, and there is an interview with James Amstrong, vice president of SCEE where he says that digital only accounts for 4% of total sales.

James Amstrong - contrary to what most people think, only 4% of sales are digital.

Visão - Why ?

James Amstrong - ...anyone who buys a phisical game can play it on other console, take it to a friend´s house, etc.

You can sell it. You can not play a digital game in other console nor sell it...

He also says that Portugal is the country where Sony has its largest market share and he doesn´t think that this will be the last generation of consoles.

Just to remember the biggest digital buyers are in US... for Vita it is close to 60% if I remember.

Is he factoring in console cost as well? That's extremely lopsided.

If it was possible to sell online games digital sales would skyrocket.
That is probably the biggest obstacle for the increase of digital sales.

Too bad that piece of interview doesn`t reveal which company is seeing the highest digital sales or if portuguese gamers are doing more purchases online.

Doesn't surprise me, digital prices are still higher than retail... which is absolutely retarded, digital should be lower because it's cheaper to distribute that way...

Well, it should be whatever people are prepared to pay for it. They've clearly calculated that higher digital prices give them greater overall profit.

I would think those are the portugal numbers. In the U.S. I'd expect it to be at least a little higher. I know for Vita - it is way higher.

I believe these are overall numbres or at least european numbers. The full interview has two parts, first one regardind Portugal market, second one Playstation brand as a whole.

What gives them greater profit is not pissing off retail. Retail will be very happy with those numbers.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

if you compare rating ps3-numbers with ps vita rating numbers in the psn store you will see that vita numbers usually are higher
therefore i'm not surprised
