Forums - Sales - Tracking PS4/Xbone Digital Sales

I'm not sure if this question has been asked before, so I'm asking it. Now that the PS4 and Xbox One both have digital full retail games going on sale day and date with their physical disc counterparts, how will VG Chartz track game sales?

I'm imagining that over the next few years, the numbers will become increasingly inaccurate as people start buying digital games in greater numbers on their consoles.

Any thoughts on how this process would work to keep accurate data?

I don't think there's anyway for VGC to track digital sales.

My guess is they won't track digital sales. They haven't been doing it for any other platform with a digital store fronts (PS3, PSVita, 360, etc).

They tried for a while for Xbox Live Arcade games. That was probably a year or two after the 360 release. I think they only did a few though and I'm not sure how they arrived at their numbers.

It makes you wonder if we'll see Wii U multi-plat games selling higher than the PS4/Xbone versions based on physical copies.

I suspect we'll just have to get by with rough approximations based on physical sales and official statements from publishers.

In Japan where there are sort of semi-official trackers like Media Create, Famitsu and Dengeki I'm a little more hopeful - Famitsu are publishing digital sales beginning in the new year, so they obviously have some sort of deal with the platform holders or publishers.

However given that Vgchartz isn't so well known, I'm not sure if they could do something similar
