Forums - Gaming - will grandia 4 ever come?

A sequel will be developed by Eidos for the iOS.

If there ever was a sequel, since Square Enix can't make a story worth crap and whoever developed the last two, I'm guessing Game Arts, didn't have a good story, they should take the Tales of the World style of gameplay and just put all our favorite Grandia characters in one game, let the hero be a created character with his/her own class.

Grandia Xtreme gets a lot of hate for having stupid looking characters, a poor story, and worse graphics than Grandia 2 despite being a sequel. The good thing about it is the gameplay. The dungeon crawler gameplay in Grandia Xtreme is good, even when the dungeons are randomized at the end. Weapons, items, and skills are random, as well, even when stealing. Then the classic Grandia gameplay with the egg combining system to get better eggs. I like the way you get magic best in the original Grandia, but the multiple egg combining system is better for longevity in a sort of dungeon crawler environment.

So anyways, in this Grandia game where all the characters are in the same game, you could have have a party with all the main characters, Justin, Ryudo, Evann, and Yuki, keep the characters paired up with their respective series, like Justin,, Feena, Sue, and Guido, or have characters you favor and work well together. Justin/Ryudo, Feena, Millenia, and Guido..

i sure hope so as long it's a serious project and not lackluster ios, mobile game. but give me a new starocean of valkyrie profile first.

You want to talk to tri-ace and square about those. Grandia is Game Arts. Square did publish Grandia 3, but they dont own the IP.

Nope. In the same way we don't get a new Wild ARMs or Breath of Fire (BOF 6 ISNT A THING). These mid-tier JRPG's just don't really think they can find a place in the market anymore (which is silly, seeing as Tales is doing so well).

Also, Game Arts is busy making Monster Hunter knockoffs like Nem says.

I'm sure there is a place for them on handhelds in Japan. The problem is everyone is trying to come up with the next multi-million seller Monster Hunter and failing at it.

i know. i just tried to point out that grandia is not my top priority when it comes to rebooting old/classic jrpg franchises.

Had never the chance to play Grandia 3, because it was never released in Europe :(

But People, we can look forward to Child of Light, it will have the same battle system and is from Ubi, too! :)

I definitely am getting that, and would like to see more battle videos.

Oh, I definitely agree, there is a place for them on handhelds.  But as you say, bigger publishers aren't interested in chasing the small RPG crowd, they want the Monster Hunter crowd.  Which is a shame, because smaller companies like NIS/Compile Heart/Nihon Falcom/Gust get by just fine on the small RPG crowd.  If you dedicate appropriate resources to it; it can be profitable.

I've only ever played Grandia II, but thought it was pretty amazing... I played the PS2 version which was apparently gimped compared to the Dreamcast version, but whatever, I really enjoyed it!

You can get Grandia II for dirt cheap on the PC. It's the same port as the DC version, though the differences between the PS2 and DC versions are mostly on the graphical side. PS2 had a lot of slowdowns and spells being glitched when going from cutscene to 3D battlefield, but also had more CGI in-game cutscenes.
