Forums - Gaming - Do you think shows like VGX affect the game industry?

It appears that they changed the format to please the critics of the VGA's. Personally i had no issues with the VGA's of old.

Yeah they had a lot of celebrities talk about games they know nothing about and have hosts who almost always mess things up plus the awards themselves which didn't seem to be awarded based on merit at all.

But other than that it was at least an actual SHOW with real world premieres. I don't even know what this was. I mean did they even do a practice run of this..? Did Geoff have any clue what the reveals were? Does geoff know what a world premiere is??? WTF.

I say go back to the old format. Get a decent and transparent panel to decide the awards. Get a host who at the very least knows what gaming is about. I mean how hard can it be to get a celebrity gamer host? And try and secure actual world premiere's with some goddam gameplay! In between awards that could get some of the composers to perform their music from games. Like what Sony did at one of the E3's with TLOU.

The things i suggested should be common sense...and if they actually do that and keep it up over a period of time then we can actually have the oscars of gaming. It will be an event to celebrate games right up there with E3!

Made the gaming industry look like a joke.

Why can't we just have a snazzy and classy show like the Academy Awards?

Is that too much to ask?!

This show was absolutely disgusting. It insulted us as gamers, it insulted the industry, and it insulted the medium as a whole. This shit show was nothing but a disservice. I think Geoff has good intentions, but part of me believes that these scripts are partly due to higher ups having demands for content.

I honestly don't know if I will watch next year out of spite. I thought the VGAs were headed in a better direction these past few years, but this was the lowest of the low.
