I think these threads, and the other threads that have dozens of pages (and I have my settings set to a 100 posts per page I think), should either be 1) stickied 2) locked 3) filterable.

I think the problem with overly long threads is that they tend to clog up the thread list. This could be solved by sticking them so that they're organized in one place and potentially hidden. There's also more debateable problems like overly long threads declining in quality, essentially becoming a sub forum and lacking a central topic, or becoming a chat room for a few people.

For me, the ideal solution is being able to filter out threads. Maybe a button that says "Read" (is there already a feature like that?). That'll hide the thread from the thread list.

No. Threads should only be stickied if they are of the utmost importance or are of interest of the whole community.

I am more bothered by the fact that in these long lasting topics the OP gets rarely updated, but the thread title does. So you go inside because the title promises some awesome new sauce for the system you are interested in and then you have to go through +300 posts at the end of the thread to actually find small info for the awesome sauce.

Why don't the people opening these long lasting threads just change the OP and store the old one in some random post inside the thread >_>

Then they should be locked. The whole point of threads are that they're centered around a single topic. I just don't understand the point of a topic that is constantly changed/updated to basically turn it into a new one.

I don't think anyone cares what you think Akvod, the threads are obviously doing well.

Do you have an argument why there should be a single thread with multiple topics? Why even have forums when you could have one single thread?
