Even when Matt Peckham gets it right ... he missed the point.
Recently, the PC World blogger (and known non-Wii-fee) weighed in on the Wii games being rated lower. But he quickly turned it into a "Wii games don't sell" discussion.

This paragraph caught my eye: Nevertheless, Microsoft (and at various points during 2007, Sony as well) has been absolutely beating the pants off Nintendo in retail software sales. For 2007's "top 50" software sales, the Xbox 360 outsold the Wii by a margin of 3.4 million units. But it outsold the Wii by over 10 million when you open up sales to include absolutely everything.
In 2007 in the Americas -- VGChartz supports the "Xbox 360 sales>Wii sales" claim. The Xbox sold 50.86M units of software last year while the Wii sold 40.68M -- or just over a 10M difference. For the record, Sony sold 16.45M units of software for the PS3, so how Sony at various points "beat the pants off of Nintendo" occured is not apparent, unless he is combing PS2 and PS3 sales to make his point.
Of course, this fails to recognize that there is a larger installed base of Xbox 360 units in America. That difference was 3.85M units at the beginning of the year and still 1.76M units at the end of the year. So of course there should be more games sold.
While I do concede there are great games on the 360 and some shovelware on the Wii, there are other explanations besides game quality for the sales descripancy.
This is just another case of Matt Peckham bending facts to support his arguements against the Wii.
