I like early launches (from a business perspective). They're great. You build up a lineup quicker, get some early adopters who encourage their friends, get prices down sooner. They almost always work well. NES, Genesis, PS, PS2, XB360 have all used them to either dominate or dramatically increase market share.
Nintendo botched their early launch a bit by not having enough compelling software and not marketing well enough. That said, it may have given them time to work out some kinks. I think the launch time was fine, they just need to do a better with the system. It's like they only started trying a month or two ago.
