Forums - Gaming - Kotaku - Why resolution matters

I guess it does matter to some people. It doesn't to me. I checked that GIF of ACIV in the article and I couldn't tell which one was "the better one". When I buy a PS4, it'll be because it has games that interest me, not because of a minor resolution difference.

But that gif was horrible and very badly done. check thoses png on a native 1080p display:

And remember that the sharpening filter is perfect for compressed or downsampled media. But when you compare on a native screen, the illusions are shattered.

The bigger the TV, the closer you sit to it then the more the resolution matters. My friend was playing PS4 BF4 which is 1600x900 on a 1080p 47inch TV up fairly close and you could see a good few jaggies. My TV is alomst the same make as his but 32inch and I sit further away. I'm sure the jaggies would be A LOT less noticeable.

Great. Let's all get some high-end PCs and 4K monitors then.

we would if we could afford them.

only an idiot would pick 1080p over 4k if they cost roughly the same amount.

But I thought resolution mattered.

you laugh now but wait until it comes out. It'll be able to turn your SD tv into and HD one!

resolution matters, its just not the ONLY thing that matters. FR + Gameplay + content are also very important.

but if you have the SAME GAME, played at two different resolutions, Why would you pick the lower?

Whats stopping the cloud from helping now??? The cloud is not going to do a thing... What happens when you play offline? Graphics will downgrade? never going to happen.  Pure ms pr bs.

tbh, it would have actually done more if microsoft had enforced the allways online policy they were planning on using before the backlash

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Wow, if people still cant tell them apart there is clearly something wrong with their eyes. Colors are much more vibrant on PS4 and everything is just sharper, I dont even need to zoom in to see the difference.

Oh thank fuck for that, i can tell you are joking now :P You had me really concerned for a moment there xD I've heard such hilarious things about the "secret sauce" that being able to tell if someone is joking about it has become really hard :P I'd give that a solid 8/10.

The secret GPU was my favorite.

In the case of call of duty.

1. existing comunity reationships.

2. history of a better online experience.

3. stable frame rate.

and none of the games with different res are system sellers so getting a ps4 over a bone for the sole purpose that it has a higher res on THAT game is stupid. That goes for every multi plat that is higher res on the ps4. none of the games define this generation.
