To be fair to him, after a year on the market (including 1 holiday season) Vita had sold ~300k in the UK. After a year on the market (including 1 holiday season), Wii-U will have sold ~200k in the UK (although that figure appears to be closer to 150k since we have it overtracked here).
So in the same timeframe, Wii-U has sold 50% of what Vita has sold. And Vita is a platform which has massively, massively struggled to find relevance in the market (and has pretty much failed outside a niche in Japan).
Since the guy making the comments is British, at least I can find some semblance of thought to his comments at least in reference to the UK. Vita already isn't on shelves in major supermarkets (Tesco seem to have dropped it completely). Doesn't spell well for Wii-U.
Of course, I'm not agreeing with him. It'll obviously see another Christmas. What capacity it'll still see a retail presence during that Christmas here in the UK though is questionable.
(If he'd just kept his argument to that, I could've empathised with him more. The comments about cancelling projects seem a bit naff and from thereon it gets a bit more ridiuclous. If there's one thing Iwata is shown, it's that he'll be incredibly stubborn about Wii-U, so I can't see any situation where that will happen).
