There a little feeling in the dept of your belly that tells you Xbox one and PS4 is next-gen..... until that feeling is gone they shall remain next-gen. Beside adoption rate should be considered in this matter. Since the PS4 is suppose to sell 80-100 million consoles and is currently sitting at one 1 million ... PS4 is still next-gen for 79-99 millions gamers!!!!

The term "next-gen" when we should be calling them "current gen".... it feels strange when you already have a "next-gen" console. It's not very "next" when it's literally right in front of you and you're starring at it.

Surely that still depends on what country you live in.

How about we still call the PS3 era "Last Gen" and the new consoles "New Gen".

Generational change putting everyone on edge? No jokes about generations I see.

Anyway PS4, XB1, WiiU will be called next-gen until the next versions are announced or the previous gen is discontinued, that's how marketing works.
Ouya and Steam box are different since they don't have a predecessor, yet I'm sure Steam box will also be called a new generation of PC gaming.

Locally, feel free to choose your terminology based on whether systems have been released in your country. But this is the internet, and an English-language forum, so if they're all out in an English-speaking country, that'll have to be enough to say that the generation has officially shifted.

Mind you, prior to the release of the PS4 and XBO, I was calling the Wii U "current gen"... because it's the most recent system from Nintendo. It remains "current gen" next to PS4 and XBO. But I realise that some people have trouble reconciling this concept (that current gen is defined by the newest currently available system from each company), so was OK with people continuing to use "next gen" for PSV/3DS/WiiU prior to release of the PS4 and XBO... but now that they're out, there's no excuse.

If you live in an emerging market though, the PS3 and 360 are still science fiction, let alone the One and PS4, so it's all relative...

The 360 and PS3 were referred to as "next gen" in a Yahoo news article from 2011 if I remember correctly, so this will never catch on

It is a natural transition that happens whenever it happens. Why force the issue. We have been through this for the last two decades and guess what? It sorted itself out and life carried on.
