Forums - Microsoft - Is there anything MS could actually do to make old Rare(ware) fans happy?

MS gave Rare a few stabs at platformers and a shooter, but they didn't do particularly well or weren't very good.

Nintendo has shown they didn't need Rare. Retro Studios has been doing some amazing work for years.

Double Helix and Retro Studios both showed classic Rare games are fine in the hands of other studios.

Personally, I'm happy with Rare just working Kinect games. They are one of few studios actually getting me excited about Kinect games.

 

So what it take to make old Rare fans happy? Even if MS brought all the old team back to make a platformer, I'm sure old fans wouldn't care for it. Do old Rare fans complain just for the sake of complaining?

Nintendo and Rare are like Snoop and Dr. Dre. They can survive without each other but they were best when they were together. Nintendo hasn't showed ME that they don't need Rare.

Yes they complain for the sake of it... Or should I say it is more of golden age syndrome... Pretty much memories will always be better
that said I like what rare did for the most part... I'd love a kameo 2, like you said Kinect games from rare are quiet enjoyable for the one that care about Kinect games.... Viva pinata was good too... So rare has potential
IPs pretty much what you said it's more about talent than studio... If they have the right people it doesn't matter if it's not rare...

that said I am almost sure that no matter what a lot of the old fans would not be satisfied by a revival of the ip, no matter how good it is... They'd be better off calling the B&K Roger &mike change the skin to be judge on the game and not in comparison to old memories that seem better in our minds than any game can be...

Perhaps Rare could have had some hits developing for Nintendo platforms. That's an audience they are good with. But Nintendo surely doesn't need them. They wouldn't have brought a unique audience to Nintendo consoles.

I don't think Nintnedo needs Rare. But I bet Nintendo would love to own Banjo Kazooie.

No, even if Rare do make games fans want, they aren't the same team anymore.

I don't think anyone is clamoring for a new Perfect Dark. Not similar to previous games atleast. Although, I'd love to see it taken in a direction similar to Deus EX: HR.

I'd love to see a new Battletoads, but maybe they would be best in the hands of Wayfoward.

Eitherway, those are two IPs that might be best in the hands of other studios.

I still like Rare. If I could get a new Kameo, they would make me happy! And maybe some Jet Force Gemini and a good Perfect Dark up in this motherfucker.

I am an old time fan.

And Killer Instinct has made me VERY happy indeed Microsoft keep doing that, then Rares old IPS will be coming with a bang.
