(a.k.a. The spiritual successor to spurge's hypothetical Wal-Mart superthread)
Today I visited the local Meijer (Midwest USA retail chain, for those not in the know), and actually chatted up a worker who knew things about games (a rarity). He talked about how PS4 games were flying off the shelves (no surprises there), along with major seventh-gen holiday titles, and we touched on Super Mario 3D World in our discussion. I stated that 3D World seems like "a Black Friday game", to which he concurred. "Mario games sell."
Interestingly, the layout for the video game section had changed, with Nintendo and Sony switching places. Nintendo games were the most prominently featured, and Wii U titles were actually arranged seperately from the Wii titles! Amazing. I can only hope that other stores follow my local Meijer's shining example of organizational excellence.
Anyway, the point is, the stage is set, and I'm anticipating/dreading Wii U's performance on the year's biggest shopping day. I'm convinced that North America needs to become some sort of Wii U haven if the console is even to be a modest success, and that's without comparing it to Wii.
