Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Ryse Son Of Rome Review. A Selnor Review.

Finished the ending. Was pretty meh imho. I like cinematic experiences but it seems silly to go through all of that and then take control of the revenge/culmination of the entire game out of the players hands like that. But that's the industry we play in nowadays I guess.

Would still give it a 7 easily, maybe higher depending on how the co-op plays out (I have still only played a few matches). Loads of potential for the franchise.

So I am a level 28 or so in the Gladiator mode now.

This mode is incredible. I almost always play solo, and it's an awesome score attack type mode like many cell phone games where I am constantly trying to beat my own score. I got a 150 combo today which was good enough for like 21k points. I should really start racking them up later when I get good gear. I have spent I would guess close to 6 hours the last few days just playing this over and over. This game will probably get 40-50 hours of play time from me by the time it's all said and done. I think I'll up my personal score to a 7.5

I'll bump again after I hit level 100 in MP. Then I am replaying on Legendary or whatever the hardest mode is and gunning for all the collectibles. Fuck I hate when games lock the hardest setting on your first playthrough.

Yeap me too I'm currently playing... Fuck people saying game play is meh.... I love DMC and all but ryse is hack'n and slash done right end of story.... Like you know, you actually hack and slash in that game like you are supposed too, buy pressing simple buttons and get amazing on screen results again like you are supposed to.... If I want to play street fighter meets and RPG I play DMC or boyonetta but it ain't hack'n slash... That's for sure...

so yeah people saying game play is boring are simply not hack'n slash true fans... Which is fine but don't try to spoil the fun for us by making all of them uber complex pile of crap (by hack'n slash standards of course)...

I would give that game an 8 to 8.5 if it wasn't for 3 things... A little too easy and not spectacular enough on the biss fights (I'm in soldier mod).... Executions are limited to 2 simultaneous baddies max, and the biggest one is lack of variety in enemies... A bunch of dogs at least could have been added and more original variety... But all in all I'll give it a 7.5 to 8 average with no problem...
and this leaves them with a solid base and room for improvement for future titles which is even better... A samurai one next... The only issue I can see with other era is that very few reach the level of self-righteousness and extravagance of the roman one...

Too bad you're only playing the MP now. It was nerfed quite heavily in relation to experience points. Fear not though, good gear does help a hell of a lot. I raced to level 100  and completed all the collectibles also. Very satisfying when you do get all of the achievements! Which perk of the gods do you prefer?

The ONLY thing that I have to say is wrong in this post is this "so yeah people saying game play is boring are simply not hack'n slash true fans" while I am a HUGE hack'n slash fan. I still feel the gameplay was dull. Being a hack'n slash fan doesn't mean that we just ignore something like that. I am a HUGE Dynasty warriors, Samurai Heros, Sengoku Basara etc fan(we are the real hack'n slash fans lol). And I know those games got the scores they deserved and along with the combat complaints, BUT that doesn't change the fact that I LOVE those games and will continue to love them, have funw itht hem and purchase them...

Also I had lots of fun with Ryse and I PRAY that they continue the series and just make improvements. It was a beautiul game, with a solid setting that has lots of potential if done right the next time around!

So that's what is going on. I remember reading about people power leveling to 100 in one afternoon shortly after the game released. Oh well, I still gain a level every other round it seems. All comes down to how high of a combo you get going.

I guess Apollo is my favorite God so far. I haven't used Jupiter yet, I read he is the best. I am one round away from unlocking his reward and then Jupiter will be all I have left. I hate Diana, her focus ability is terrible imho. It's decent for force pushing guys into traps or off ledges, but I prefer the fire damage of Mars or the slow down of the other two.

Shit I guess Jupiter is the best. My 2nd or 3rd game with him, nailed IIRC a 233 combo. You can basically just spam the focus over and over and just annihilate fools, so much fun. But yeah I can see why they'd nerf the XP. I got something like 78k XP from that combo. Wonder what it would convert to in the previous state.

Just had a 140 one going and had a "Kill the Archers!" round and the fucking archers always get 1 free insta-shot when you climb up to where they are. Seems totally random whether the game will allow you to deflect or not :

Watched the cutscenes on Youtube. 1 hour and 43 minutes. Amazing story. And while people say the kills get repetitive, they are badass all the same.

Best sub-70 meta launch game this gen by far.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

High combo is now 263. I will have a perfect run soon and will hit 300, I can feel it. I wonder what the highest one ever is, wish the game kept a leaderboard or something for that stat.

Fucking archers and their insta-hit ruined a perfect run I had going. But I have learned that if you climb up far away from them, they go down to my blade easily. It shan't happen again.

hmmm yeah but I don't categorise DW in the same sub category as a game like Ryse... those mass destruction action RPG hack'n slash.... love them too :)

was asking about them on new gen in the Xbox nation post a few days ago (if you know anything coming I'm interested)

ryse is more close to batman, AC etc kind of gameplay imo... but more focused on the combat.... I'd actually like to see comething closer to the free flow system of batman in the next ryse so you can do combo executions on more than 2 players...

personally I haven't found the gameplay dukk un ryse just that there is room for improvemen for sure.... nothing close to broken imo though... still very enjoyable for people looking for a trus hack'n slash
