And how fast are R9 290 and 290X compared to 280X

The R9 280X is essentially an overclocked 7970. The R9 290 and the R9 290X performs on average 15% and 25% faster than the R9 280X respectively.

If you can get a 7970 cheaper than the 280X, get the 7970, they're exactly the same GPU but with differing clocks.
