Forums - Sony - First image of PS4 & PS Vita Ultimate Edition Bundle - UPDATE Price £599.96

I can't see this bundle going for less than 600$
bundling hardware doesn't work like software

Ehhhh... I have mixed feelings about this.

Remember how the 20GB PS3 (if anyone here even remembers the 20GB PS3, ironically, lol) ended up fading into obscurity and the 60GB PS3 took all the limelight? Which resulted in more cons than pros for Sony.

I feel like the standalone PS4 might suffer the same fate and this "ultimate bundle" will be lauded and hammed up for it's pricepoint.

On the flipside, it's not like MS are offering an SKU $200 cheaper this time around. So who knows... I just would've thought Sony want to stay well away from this territory at all costs after what happened to the PS3 in it's first year.

That has to be the worst analogy I have ever seen. Comparing a 20GB gimped version of PS3 with a 500GB PS4 that has all the features regardless if it’s bundled with a Vita or not. All it will do is provide the consumer with options of either console gaming by itself or coupled with handheld gaming/remote play at an extra cost. You pick one gimped sku to support your argument and disregard all the sku’s that have been supported this gen from both MS and Sony. Clearly, there is a business model that works for tiered bundle sku`s without gimping the feature set. That’s why the 20GB PS3 fell into obscurity, it didn’t even have wi fi.

Support my argument? I could care less about what happens between these bundles. And I think the 360 proved how much consumers cared for Wi-Fi back in 06. The 20GB version was still fundamentally, a provided option, and perhaps the better value model, what else were you losing for $100? Card readers and overkill chrome trim?  (and this is coming from someone who has the 60GB version) In Japan, the 20GB version lasted just as long as the 60GB version, go figure. All I'm saying is, I hope SCEA are treading very carefully about how they market this thing, this early on, especially in a market where the Wii U has been disillusioned as a peripheral for a year.

why should i buy this?

Because suddenly the Vita seems to be an interesting device

To be honest I don't think that this bundle would sell much.

'suddenly' the idea of remotely playing a game on a second screen is not good anymore?

oh right, i forgot. we have multitouch, dedicated vita games for on the go, remote play via internet, third party support (at least on the ps4) - so it is, in fact, a better remote play than on the wiiu.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

please happen

would have a vita tv, vita, and PS4 setup would be boss.

If it's 499$, then OMG.....but if it's something like 549$ or higher (probably will be), then meh....

As an adult man who owns his own car, I see absolutely 0 use for any handheld console. Who are they adverting this thing to? The 3DS is already targeted at children, so who is going to buy the vita? HS/college Students I guess, but many students here in the US also own cars, few commute so to me the vita is absolutely pointless.

Sounds like a 12 year old wrote that first sentence. Wtf does being an adult man owning your own car have to do with this thread?

I lol'd.

The PS4 is in high demand, and Sony is just about breaking even on each one. The PS4 by itself is selling for over $600 on eBay. Why would they ever discount it? They are already selling out every unit they can so there is no need to reduce the price.

I think they will sell this for $600 and either throw in a Vita game or a PS+ membership. People who want a PS4 will buy it anyway.
