People seriously thinking the X1 won't break the 1 million units sold mark in the first 24hours?
It'll probably break that in the US alone + don't forget it will be available in several other territories.

Based on previous reports from some retailers where allocation of consoles was showing 3-1 ratio in favor of PS4, I would say 2-3 weeks to reach 1 Million. Its more of a supply matter than demand at this point of time.

Americans are a mercenary bunch. Collectively, we've swapped preferences so many times it's ridiculous. As for Japan, well, they buy Japanese games and Japanese hardware. Western stuff rarely sells. The 360 has sold less than 1.7 million units in the country, and has already been surpassed in lifetime sales by the Vita. GTAV is the best-selling non-Japanese game of the generation there, and it's sold only 540k so far. Nintendo won the third, fourth, and seventh generations  in Japan, while Sony won the fifth & sixth generations (the PS3 will likely fall short of the Wii by time it is itself discontinued). Given how the Wii U has performed in Japan so far, the PS4 is a shoo-in for winning the eighth generation there. The Xbox brand will continue being irrelevant in Japan.


Ok, but we are talking about this point in time, not the future, not the past, right now.  Currently, xbox is a bigger brand.

Like he said, every gen starts anew in the US, so it doesn't matter that the 360 was more popular. Just like it didn't matter that the PS2 was more popular.

Due to lower stock and demand, 2-3 weeks.  Of course, by the 3rd week Sony will probably be approaching 2M if they can keep up with demand.

Ok. But the PS2 was a more popular brand during its gen. By your logic, it should have been the more popular brand during the 7th gen too, in the U.S., right?

As you said. It's not the past, the future, but right now that counts. And right now, it's a new beginning, and things are still in the air.

It only depends on how many consoles MS can produce and ship to retailer. I think X1 will be highly supply constrained due to MS was late...
