Forums - Microsoft - Region locking questions on XBL

I get the region lock, even though I think the price difference doesn't change anything for MS the publisher or the dev it is mostly different tax levels which go straight in the country government pockets and nobody else and they enforce the region lock to avoid retailers going out of business just because their country tax is scandalous....

but that would mean they use the region of the console origin ????

not the one of your IP/acct origin ???

it's weird since the new XB will be region free and the only difference will be your XBL acct location/origin

well anyway that always leave him with the option to import games from japan... now a day it is not a big issue to order stuff from anywhere in the world....

well they use both ...

obviously you can't buy an us game with an eu account. so there is one check.
the other one is if you start the game and it has a region lock then it will look it up which is hardcoded to your console.

but it doesn't matter if you start the game with an eu/us/asia account for the achievments. once its downloaded to the console it only checks the origin the console has, not what account you start it.

good to know... well even if the XB one will be region free this confirms my decision of buying one from the US then :D just to be safe...

Hey thanks for the help guys.

I'm physically not in the US (I'm in Southeast Asia), but I put US (Cal 90210) in my address. I guess that makes my XBL account a US one?

I get confused because I've been browsing games where some doesn't have a "Buy" option, for example Zumba Fitness. The latest one, Zumba World Party does have a Buy option, but from what I know, there's no Zumba game for NTSC-J. I also downloaded demos of JRPGs (Eternal Sonata, ToV) but they're in Japanese so I'm not sure if I will buy them.

I guess I can try changing the region of my gamertag to Singapore, so I that I'll be in the actual Asian region. What would happen to my games and achievements?

yeah region lock is bad ... if the 360 didn't have one I could have saved a lot of money or bought like 10 import games from japan -_-

i don't think you can change region ... if its really an us account and you want an asian one you need to make a new account.
where have you registered your account (web or console) ? what is the store currency ?

but you can still keep your us account and play with it for the achievments and making buys with your asian account.
like my jp account doesn't have any achievments. They are all on my eu account, even for the jp games.

From my experience : Bahamas

anything physical will work.

Certain apps would not allow me to download such as crunchy roll

some game companies won't allow downloads. the weird thing is I am able to download everything from infinity ward's cod titles but nothing from trey arch's titles. they are both regulated by activison son it's puzzling.

when fable 2 was a fee xvl gold download I was not able to download it etc

I don't know why they're in japanese. The currency that shows up in the marketplace is in $.

I tried purchasing a region locked game but the console blocked it. I guess the system is fool proof, which is good. As for JRPGs I'll just buy DVDs and won't risk buying online.

Hello everyone,

This is my second post ever on this Forum & i need to apologize as soon as possible for my horrible language. I hope following setence does make sense through.

Only the FRA Version has a USK Pending on it...Could the DLC Code be multilingual...?
