i hope they're not stupid enough to actually do so.

I don't know if many have noticed but sales of the Vita have quietly doubled on a weekly basis over the last month and a half. This was well after the price drop, so that is not apparently why. The only thing I can see is that the high sales on the 3DS is driving people to buy Vita's. Kinda unintuitive, but that's kind of what it looks like.
Sony isn't ignoring the Vita, they're doing exactly what they did with the PSP, which is working with Japanese third-party publishers and developers to supply games. Kind of like their Hunter game project, which has already produced a few titles. Now, that's Japanese-centric, obviously, but you can't blame them for that. In the west, it looks like the emphasis will be on porting over home console games, like they're doing with Borderlands 2.

They already confirmed that GT6 will be the last big exclusive game for the PS3. Vita probably will get games from the minor Sony studios, like the PSP, since these studios can't do a AAA console game by themselves and usually only give some support to the big ones like ND and Santa Monica. Japan Studio probably will be almost completely Vita dedicated, specially if Vita TV gains ground on the East.

Okay, let's be serious, Sony released some of its big 1st party games as of Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance, and moneyhatted for COD and ACIII, it didn't work very well, and the company is in serious financial issues due to low turnover and R&D costs. Why bother with releasing other titles which won't sell well enough to recover even its cost as the latest Killzone ? They should get some money to help advertising the platform and bring 3rd Party SW. And given the remote play feature, i doub sony doesn't care anymore about it..
this was definitely PS3's last year to have 1st party exclusives, 3rd parties will definitely continue support for a long while though. Vita seems like its stuck being a niche handheld, I dont think theres much Sony can do about it without seriously damaging the PS4 by moving many devs over to Vita
