I consider the Zelda series a  rpg you gain stats/lvls by hearts and items, and there are mini quests. The only thing it doesn't have that makes it an rpg is character customization and role taking.

You take on the role of Link. The only thing that really seperates it from games people do identify as RPGs is levels. I just can't understand how people can claime Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy 6, and Final Fantasy Tactics are all RPGs but Zelda games are action/adventure. Any story driven game where you assume the role of a character and make things happen is an RPG in my book. Glad I am not alone on this board at least.

No when I say role taking I mean like pick between mage, physical attack, range, and you could add races.

when i thought about a zzelda rpg, i thought of mega man: command mission. Although it wasn't a bad game, it wasn't as fun as the mega man games were. So maybe changing the formula around wouldn't be good,

That implies that action/adventures have no story, which is not the case, imo.

@ Joeron

I love that idea about playing as ganondorf from a young age. Showing another side of him would add such a great dimension to the zelda series. It would be great if he started on a quest for good, but then gradually as you play the game he became more and more corrupted.

Nintendo can publish it, but i would rather have someone else develop it. Nintendo's not the best at telling stories.

Zelda IS an RPG. RPG does not mean gaining experience and leveling up. RPG means 'role playing game'. It's a series where you really get into and feel for the main character, hence you are playing a role. You are playing a role, therefore it is a 'role playing game'.

And yes, a Pokemon MMO would be awesome! As a matter of fact, I think the only reason the handheld games are not as popular anymore (though still very popular) is because they haven't changed from game to game. A radical overhaul like that would be HUGE!

Could I trouble you for some maple syrup to go with the plate of roffles you just served up?

"Ok, girl's trapped in the elevator, and the power's off.  I swear, if a zombie comes around the next corner..."

I don't think they really need to.. most RPG fans I know seem to love Zelda. Nintendo always adds new things to each new Zelda game but radically altering the style seems like a recipe for disaster. I think they already added RPG elements like hit points to The Adventure of Link.. I haven't played that game but people seem to prefer the first game as well as A Link to The Past.

In that case, alomst every game is an RPG. Ratchet, Uncharted, Halo, ect... All RPG's by the way you define the genre.
