no you must have vrified a purchase to leave a review, so unless they are rich xbox trolls who purchased the ps4 to troll it then they are legit.
as others pointed out most who leave reviews are people with bad experiences. Happens to all products. In anycase there is an issue out there I don't know why Sony fans beed to signup to this site just to defend that.
I rather the issue be fixed sooner rather than later when more consoles are sold.

not true, i just tried and submitted a review just for testing that theory of yours that i already knew was incorrect. anyone can submit a review and everyone knows that the reviewing system on amazon is faulty and innacurate because of this.
My experience with electronics is generally most "issues" are customer related. They don't know how to hook it up, hook it up but don't change inputs, put device on wrong video setting etc. People are idiots these days and are quick to bash what they don't understand. I'm not saying that all of the consoles shipped are working perfectly, no device has a perfect launch record, I am saying that not all reported issues are due to the device being defective.
Most of those reviews are obviously fake. Its not hard to tell...

Sony can expect whatever failure rate they want it means zero. MS didn't aknowledge RROD at first either.
If anything this might be evidence 0.4% is a joke. |
The 0.4% was based on the consoles that were out in the wild at that point. That was before *Launch*... of course that number can go up, or is likely to go up.
Now the issue here is if they sold say 1 million consoles in the USA, and have the average failure rate of 3-6%, thats 30-60k of dead consoles... thats a LOT in terms of interenet coverage... especially as the first buyers could be classed as those types of users who are online. I mean look at Neogaf, there are 120,000 registered users, if 1k of those users purchased a console, you would expect 30 odd to have failures. There are about 30-40 users so far who have had a DOA console... so it sounds about right.
If you go on the Sony site, there is a 47 page thread, some posters are making multiple posts, but that might be less than 100 people who have an issue on that thread alone. Same with amazon, ... the majority of people who have a working console should be playing it, while those that don't will complain. So over the next week or so we will get a better picture. I think Sony were sensible having a two week gap between USA/Europe, it allows them to monitor the situation and sort out PSN/Patches etc, MS will have similar problems I am sure but as they are launching everything day 1, it could be worse (spreading a problem over two weeks will result in less complaints than all at the same time obviously).
I do hope Sony gets replacements sorted for those that are having problems, even if they allow them to replace them at the Sony store or something, as it's not nice to wait so long for something to not work on arrival. Hopefully Sony can also figure out why these machines are not working and fix that in the delivery chain.
I hope Sony do at least aknowledge a problem or offer people a way to replace their console asap. I have two coming in two weeks, and one is for my Son for Xmas. So I'm going to have to ensure his is working for 3/4 days before I wrap it up, to be safe. Not good as he will see it, probably play it, but I would rather do that than have a faulty device xmas day.
There is only one conclusion I get from this: if you think that half of the consoles are DOA because of 203 negative reviews, you are either an idiot, or an Xbox fanboy.

This thread should be locked because:
1. DirtyP got there first with the Amazon reviews
2. DirtyP's title is much less flamebait and
3. DirtyP's thread title and OP show a a bit more restraint about what 50% of reviews being about bricked consoles actually means.

Damn, maybe the problem is a lil bigger then previously thought but you can't say half of them are defected based on the number of Amazon reviews.
