Forums - Gaming - Shuhei Yoshida wishes Nintendo to succeed

Here's a review of what the man said during an interview from IGN (the source being Polygon)

President of Sony Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida wants Nintendo to be "very successful."

In an interview with IGN this week, Yoshida said that Nintendo "makes pretty fun family-friendly games." He has two Wii U consoles at his house, which he plays with his young daughters.

Nintendo's strength at catering to young gamers also pays dividends to companies like Sony, who generally cater to older gamers, he said.

"I think Nintendo and us are pretty much in the same group," Yoshida said. "We need Nintendo to be very successful, to help induct as many consumers who like to play games with controllers, right? With sticks and buttons. Because we believe they are great things."

Speaking broadly about the three console manufacturers, Yoshida said that just because they're in competition doesn't mean that Nintendo, Microsoft and Sony don't help each other.

"We need each other, I think, to create a bigger story."

According to his words, I tend to realize that any one company's success benefits the other two as well, as gamers are "recycled" from one system to the other, thus broadening the "sales pie", which they all get a piece from.  Don't you?

Either this is true or not, the man deserves kudos for his healthy-competition attitude.

I think we all want Nintendo to be alive even if you hate them... It will be very bad for the game industry in general if Nintendo goes down and Nintendo doesn't directly compete with Sony and MS anyway and their games are unmatched in their polish and quality imo

Plus majority of the people Grew up with Nintendo and they saved the game industry twice I believe

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

what a good day in console wars. microsoft were kind to sony, sony kind to nintendo. should happen a lot more often, to bring the message to the people...

i wonder if we will see a sony / microsoft console collaboration at any time in the future. who knows, maybe smartphones destroy the handheld and home console market, so they are being forced to work together again.

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Good for him. It's nice to see rivals supporting each other because they love the medium, regardless of brand.

I just wish his words didn't feed the canard that Nintendo is for young people and Sony for adults.

Each and every statement has a message hidden between the lines. I really wish what you have correctly spotted, not to be such a message.

He means that! He is referring to the people who hate Nintendo!

He isn't talking about you silly!

What is the message?

Shu is the man.
Always so tactful, honest and classy.

I do agree that the industry needs Nintendo to succeed. They're game design gods.
