Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Nintendo Stock Value Rises After Buying Stake In Mobile Web Company Dwango

I like seeing Nintendo expand their horizons rather than sit on their cash. I think they should so a number of things, such as buy/build a developer or two (even a publisher like Capcom) so that they have capacity to fully support their hardware platforms. They should potentially look at investing in a company that can assist them with a possible Nintendophone. They should seek out some innovative tech companies that can add to what they are making on the hardware front and expand their online potential. And they should diversify a little into businesses that are not as dependent on their existing core operations to help them through down periods like they are seeing now. This investment today is a good step.

If the purchase was made on November 14th then Nintendo could have spent around $11 million* USD on this deal.

*with the fluctuation of stock price on Nov 14th it could have been between  ~$10.7 - $11.3 million USD.

I have said this before, and I'll say it again: Nintendo games will not be good on smartdevices as long as those devices can't give haptic feedback. Smartdevices just aren't good for good games. IF Nintendo (or someone else) can figure out a way around this I could see Nintendo games on smartphones/tablets.

Who knows, maybe we'll see a good gaming phone within the next couple years.

Ain't that the truth. Haven't seen one yet. If anyone does it right it'll be Nintendo.

I wonder if Nintendo's next handheld after the 3ds will be a phone or have phone functionality... That would be cool to see and if they can have the android play store + their own exclusive games it might sell well if they do it right... The design will have to be very unique and different though because they can't make it look retarded

The question is if Nintendo will just make a handheld, slap a microphone on it and call it a day (phone). Nobody wants  to talk through a console, and that's why the design will be so important. I'm not sure if Nintendo would get that, they can be so retarded sometimes.

i doubt Nintendo would go Android, they'd probably make a Nintendophone OS or something, the reason for that is that Android is Open Source, meaning anyone could just download any paid game for free from the phone's freaking web browser without any modifications or jailbreak. and we know how Nintendo can be with piracy related things.

Yea I know that but I was thinking android on top of Nintendo's own OS or something like that... If Nintendo wants to get into the phone market with its own hardware, it won't survive, it would be better off just sticking to the handheld market but if they want to, they basically have to have some sort of android implementation... They can have android running and have all the apps and what not but have some sort of properity code on their games so it won't work with any other android phones or have an OS running android on top of it

you are all delusional. next Nintendo system will be a fused 3DS + Wii U, no need to have both separated. the Wii U gamepad opened too many option, using it as a portable is just one of them. it is inly a matter or size, nothing else.
