That's nice and all, but what about those of us who can't find enough worth playing on the PS3 and 360?
Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

But we know the Wii is more powerful than the Gamecube and that constantly "rivaled" the best of the XBox

Looks fantastic, but yep, nothing on the Wii yet to show for, unfortunately...

Well it's the first year. It took a year for PS2 games to show games that had more advanced graphics than the Dreamcast.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

True enough, but we haven't seen much dedicated development for the Wii yet ... Most of Nintendo's development has so far been Gamecube games that were ported to the Wii, and a lot of third party development has been third rate teams porting PS2 games very poorly ...

Oh, I agree with you on that. I think when Nintendo releases their "true" Wii games (not the ones started for the GCN) we will see what the little console can do.
However, at this point, it's like saying the "PS3 can do so much more than the 360, just wait and see" - well, we're waiting!
As far as I'm concerned, all this talk is strictly about pure potential, but it means nothing if that potential is never realized (this goes for both Wii and PS3).

I don't think that is really the issue. For me, the main issue is that all of Nintendo's games so far (if I'm not mistaken) were originally developed for the GCN, then shifted towards the Wii.
I think if games like Metroid and Mario Galaxy were released for the Wii launch, they would already look better than the graphics level the Wii currently has. Obviously given enough time developers will crank out better graphics and controls.
Wow did this thread veer way off course. Nobody said the Wii is as powerful as the 360 or PS3, why do wii-haters feel they have to keep making that point? The question was whether the Wii is more powerful than the Xbox (original, 2001 Xbox). Misplaced MHz infatuation aside, I think the posts have generally supported that it is so why are people arguing that the Wii's games won't look as good as PS3 or 360 ones? Come on people, some on topic rationality would be nice.
I think it should be added that even though the Wii is 50-100% more powerful than an Xbox is doesn't mean the graphics will be 50-100% better. Both the Xbox and GameCube came very near to maxing out what 480i 4:3 could do. A lot of the Wii's added power will be utilized for standard 480p 16:9 and filling in the last few improvements still possible while, in all but poorly written games, performing without lag. The 360 and PS3 don't look 10-15 times better than Xbox or PS2 games in 480i so it shouldn't be surprising that there's not much there from which to improve (except for the PS2-PS3).3
| vizunary said: Yeah, I'm sorry, kinda went off the deep end there..... The point I was trying to make is not just a graphics standpoint, but as a whole, physics, AI, game engines in upcoming games especially, like Lair, UT3, Halo 3, could not most likely be handled by the Wii. My brother has one and it is alot of fun to play, but even playing Zelda I didn't get the immersive experience I do from a game like Oblivion, and what I can't even imagine MGS4 and Assassin's Creed are going to be like. I'll probably get a Wii after a price drop and some good releases come out, Metroid in particular, but I despise party games and personally enjoy single player or online games better. By soccer moms and such, I mean that my mother(she's 49) likes the Wii, she actually got one of her friends to come over to play Wii sports. Which I think it's great to see someone who always called them "stupid games" getting into it, but I just don't put the whole experience on par with the other systems. I really do not undestand people actually doing the power argument b/w these systems. The Wii damn well better be more powerful than a xbox that came out 5 YRS ago, if not everyone should demand their money back right now. As far as competing with a PS3 or 360, there is no competition. Sorry again for the rant before. |
READ BEFORE POSTING!!!!!
