I always wonder why people put so much thoughts into metacritic. The mere thought that you can reduce the quality of a game into a single number and compare all genres on different gaming systems based on this value... that feels so stupid to be honest. That is simply impossible and deep inside most people will know this.

So, a certain game may get a 10/10... but what if you simply don't like the genre. What if you don't like online gaming or the sandbox approach? There are people that have much more fun with a game like Katamari Damacy than with GTA V... In the end reviews are not much more than simple opinions.

And since some reviews are from free online sites that have to survive on advertising revenue alone I highly question their use for the common gamer. It would not surprise me much if some reviews were simply bought or distorted.

I agree with you. I really can't stand games like Dishonered and Fallout 3. Both have 90+ on metacritic. I loved Tales of Xillia that has a metacritic score of 78.

Pretty sure that was down to sales not metacritic.

No, it started way way way before any sales numbers were known.

A 73 average would be a flop if the general expectations of the consumers are that the game will score much higher. It's more or less imagination meets reality and this time they weren't the same. There was a lot of hype and good feedback from the people who had limited hands-on time with the game at various events. The problem was that when you actually played the game in its entirety, the downsides became apparent. At least that's what the current reviews make it sound like. Though it seems the bulk of the issues are with the game's single player and not its multiplayer which seems to be the strong point of the game.

Now it's important to note that even something considered a critical flop by many people can still end up selling very well and in that sense it wouldn't be a total flop but would be seen as a critical failure turned commercial success. The funny part is, despite Killzone's current average typically making one think it won't sell well it actually has the advantage of being one of only two retail exclusives with the other one scoring much lower and never having much attention from consumers to begin with. Early adopters are typically game starved the first few months and will buy almost anything to justify the money spent on the console.

Resistance was a great game but comparing it to others that came out later that were better and judging by the comparatively lacking sales of its sequels, I doubt it would have sold the amount of copies it did unless it was the only retail exclusive worth owning for as long as it was. Especially on a $600 console that initially struggled in sales. Shadow Fall may not be as good as Resistance was for its time but it's still going to find itself being bought by those same game starved early adopters and this time it will be on a console that is selling far better early on than its predecessor.

Even though we haven't seen all of the reviews, and there will likely be a lot more, I don't expect this game to end up with anything higher than an average of 80 on Metacritic. Assuming that the average continues to go up as it has been with the last few reviews. There are some 90+ scores that haven't been factored yet and thus far I haven't seen any uncounted scores lower than the current average so that's a plus. However, even at an 80 the game would still not be sitting at what many people expected. It's just that a score like that would take some edge off the sting.

I have just cancalled my preorder for PlayStation 4 and all games.  I was reading the review for killzone and that when I decided not to spend $600.00 for a new console.  I just got a Nintendo Wii U and call of duty ghost for Wii u
