I'm refereing to the xbox 360 display settings, not videos...... I leave it on 1080 for good measure though but I was going back and forth and it both looked the same.

You must not have a very big television, because that is a 50% there.

That would explain it. Only time you can truly see a difference that small is on PC monitors.

Yeah I did the same thing on my 13.3' macbook screen and the screen maxes out to 800 and I can see the change from 720 to 800.......

What's confusing.  If everyone says something looks better then your mind will play tricks on you to make you think the same even if it isn't true.  Your mind wil lmake you see things that aren't there.

Now I'm not saying they look identical cause for 1. I don't care, and 2. I haven't seen either to compare, so my opinion would be moot.  

I'm just explaining what he meant.  He is saying that because he was expecting it too look better that, that may be the sole reason that it might look better.  If there was no 720/1080 controversy and both were said to be identical by activision, he would have said they were identical, cause to him they looked identical.
