Who knows? Better question, why have PS3 games been ~50 GB?

because games like killzone and uncharted have pre-rendered cut scenes on board.

Next-gen there will be no excuses for pre-rendered cutscenes

Deus Ex HR's cutscenes on PC look like shit compared to the gameplay.

Do it all in-engine.

its not about graphics. its about letting the game load while they play the cut scenes. that way the player doesnt wait and it seems like there i no loading times in the game. thats the only reason behind it. the pre-redner cutscenes are all rendered in engine and they save them.

Around the Network

Its the uncompressed audio.

Have you seen how large those files can get?

Nobody's perfect. I aint nobody!!!

Killzone 2. its not a fps. it a FIRST PERSON WAR SIMULATOR!!!! ..The true PLAYSTATION 3 launch date and market dominations is SEP 1st

I've listened to flac versions of things I have mp3's for, I could never tell why they were so big, all sounded the same..........though I hear that your hearing gets worse every year. I'm probably not picking up on certain things because of that. I'm only 25- 26 in 6 more days though........

Just downloaded ghost for 360, it was under 8 gigs. It's damn near 50 on the next gen consoles. I am wandering whats all that extra gigs for? the slightly improved graphics?

Any Ideas? is the graphics boost alone using all of that?

Ofcourse it's higher resolution textures/assets, but maybe they also swapped several of the ingame cutscenes to prerecorded videos in order to have more time to load the textures for the next stage into ram - videos ofcourse take up a lot more space.

And you have to take into account that devs just use less compression when working with a 50GB disc than when working with a 8GB disc.
