Forums - Microsoft - XB1 indie devs get Unity Engine for Free

Xbox One-only Unity Pro licenses will also be offered to qualified developers. Microsoft has already promised to be on the lookout for promising titles that deserve marketing and promotion, but offering Unity free to any developer willing to register is another step in the effort to bring original content to next-gen platforms.

But do they have Shahid Ahmad!

Nice. I wonder how close it is to what Nintendo is doing.

EDT: Finished looking it the link. It appears to be one notch below Nintendo's policy.

Nice... I love this Unity free concept... I don't care whether Nintendo or Sony or MS does it better all I care about is devs now have more free Tools to operate. Indy games are always a plus when done right. Can't wait to see what they can come up to.

I'm not sure if this was slightly directed at me with "who does it better," but if it is then you need to understand free from one place and free from another are not the same "free."

To be honest your comment made me say that yeah... but I also know that people will try hard to downplay one "free" version of the dev they don't like instead of talking of what this brings to indy devs.

Many devs are tied because of engine prices but now these rumors about unity giving different free options I hope we'll see more and more innovative games from them. Both companies offer great alternatives. Better than nothing.

Oh I'm not downplaying xbox, but I can see why my sig would make you think that ;)

I'm an indie developer that's registered with these companies. I totally agree that this move by microsoft is great, it's just natural to compare both policies since they are pretty similar.

Ohh you're an indy dev that's cool. I really like these initiatives from MS and Nintendo... hope it helps you out.

Anything that makes it easier for any developer or even some group of friends in their basement is good for all gamers. The cheaper the development costs, the better the chance for some innovation.

It is near the end of the end....

I want to see an indie dev tackle Kinect 2.0 and do something amazing
